This currently is my favorite photograph. 

It’s a fly, very likely a Drosophila, that Brad Seay gave me to photograph. It just turned out, to me, perfect in terms of lighting, positioning of the wings, the diagonal of the wingtip to the base of the pin, the lighting on the wing, the North light look from positioning the flash heads and velum paper. While it may or may not be the little Drosophila that flies around your compost bin at home, I would be at all surprised if it weren’t, and how magical that something that we so easily extinguish is this exquisite.
